Know the real price before you buy

Enter an original price and a percentage off, and this calculator instantly shows the sale price, the amount you save, and — if you add a second discount or a sales tax rate — the final amount you actually pay. It's the quick sanity check for whether a "50% off" sticker is as good as it looks.

The math

Saved = price × (percent ÷ 100)  ·  Sale price = price − saved

So 25% off an $80 item saves $20, for a $60 sale price. Add sales tax and the tax is applied to that reduced price, not the original.

Why stacked discounts trip people up

A second discount is taken off the already-reduced price, so the percentages don't simply add. "20% off, then an extra 10%" is not 30% off — the item lands at 90% of 80%, which is 72% of the original: a 28% total discount. This calculator does that chaining for you and shows the true combined percentage.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100 to get the amount saved, then subtract that from the price. For example, 25% off $80 saves $20, giving a sale price of $60.

How do stacked or double discounts work?

A second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. So 20% off then 10% off is not 30% off — the item ends at 72% of the original price, a 28% total discount.

Does this calculator add sales tax?

You can enter an optional tax rate and the calculator will apply it to the discounted price to show the final amount you actually pay at checkout.
